Mercedes-Benz describes the 2027 S-Class as the most extensive update within the current generation, with more than 50% of the vehicle, approximately 2,700 components, newly developed or re-engineered. The changes span exterior design, powertrains, chassis systems, comfort equipment, lighting, and the vehicle's digital architecture.
A central change is MB.OS, the Mercedes-Benz Operating System. The new electrical and electronic architecture connects the vehicle's major computing systems and supports fourth-generation MBUX, the MBUX Virtual Assistant, compatible Digital Extras, and over-the-air updates through the Mercedes-Benz Intelligent Cloud. The MBUX Virtual Assistant uses generative AI and can retain short-term conversational context for supported requests.
The standard MBUX Superscreen combines a 14.4-inch central multimedia display with a 12.3-inch front-passenger display beneath a continuous glass surface. A separate 12.3-inch digital driver display sits ahead of the steering wheel. The updated Zero Layer interface is designed to surface relevant information, frequently used functions, and personalized suggestions without requiring extensive menu navigation.
Next-generation DIGITAL LIGHT is standard for 2027 and incorporates micro-LED technology with 25,000 individually controlled pixels per headlamp. Adaptive Highbeam Assist Plus with Partial High Beam Function can adapt the illumination pattern around detected road users under supported conditions. Projection Function for DIGITAL LIGHT is a separate available Digital Extra, rather than standard projection functionality on every S-Class.
Standard AIRMATIC air suspension now uses intelligent damper control. With the applicable Car-to-X service active, anonymized road-condition information collected by Mercedes-Benz vehicles ahead can be transmitted through the Mercedes-Benz Intelligent Cloud and used to prepare the damping system for certain upcoming road-surface changes.
Standard 4.5-degree rear-axle steering also joins the 2027 equipment list. An available 10-degree system can reduce the published wall-to-wall turning circle from 39.0 feet to 35.4 feet.

The S 500 4MATIC Sedan uses a 3.0L twin-turbocharged inline-6 with 48-volt mild-hybrid technology. Output is 442 hp and 443 lb-ft of torque. Its Integrated Starter-Generator is rated at 23 hp and 151 lb-ft and can provide electrical assistance while also supporting energy recuperation.
The S 580 4MATIC Sedan uses a 4.0L twin-turbocharged V8 producing 530 hp and 553 lb-ft of torque. It also incorporates a 23-hp Integrated Starter-Generator and 48-volt electrical architecture.
